Zomboid under-allocates RAM by default — that is the stuttering and the crashes. Two minutes, fixed for good.

1. 1 Close your game completely.
2. 2 Open the game's root folder. Default path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid
3. 3 Look for a file named ProjectZomboid64.json.
4. 4 Open it in Notepad or any text editor.
5. 5 Find the line that says -Xmx3072m.
6. 6 Change 3072 to 12072 — that allocates 12 GB of RAM.
7. 7 Got a ton of RAM installed? Use 16072 instead.
8. 8 Save the file and close it.
9. 9 Start the game.
10. 10 Run significantly smoother. Ping us in Discord if anything still feels off.
